Thanksgiving Day

by Anca Aflat
Thanksgiving Day is a national holiday celebrated primarily in the United States and Canada, on the fourth Thursday of November. It is a day of giving thanks for the blessing of the harvest and the preceding year, a day in which families and friends get together for a special meal.

Although we do not celebrate Thanksgiving in our country, I think we should take the time, from once in a while, to be thankful for what we have instead of wishing for more. We should be thankful for each new day we get to spend with our loved ones, for our health, our pets and our parents, for being able to step outside to breathe in fresh air, for the opportunity to attend school and for people willing to teach, for the sunshine which brightens our days, for our minds which give us the opportunity to think, for diversity, for music, for love and friendship, for each smile which makes our days brighter, for the small things in life, even for our mistakes and the opportunity to learn from them and be better.

This year the students from our college will have the opportunity to say “Thanks” – I wonder what will they be grateful for? What are you grateful for this year?

  1. In Canada we celebrate Thanksgiving on the second Monday in October. It has been an official holiday since January 31, 1957.
